NetApp Celebrates Women’s History Month

In 1987, The U.S. Congress designated March as Women’s History Month, expanding the existing National Women’s History Week authorized and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1980. Women’s History Month honors women’s contributions to history and society, recognizing the achievements of women in all areas of life including science, community, government, literature, arts, sports, medicine, and more. It’s an opportunity for us to pay tribute to the past and inspire the next generation of women.
In President Carter’s address designating the first National Women’s History Week, he said, “From the first settlers who came to our shores, from the first American Indian families who befriended them, men and women have worked together to build this nation. Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength, and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well.”
Women bring leadership, innovation, business acumen, and high performance that enable success across companies and industries. Today, women across the globe are working on the next big ideas that drive our growth into the future.

Throughout the month of March, NetApp WIT will be hosting a variety of events and initiatives in honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day. Some of our initiatives include: Preparing bagged lunches for the Women’s Center, supply items in need for the Wichita Family Crisis Center, sponsoring a donations drive in Boulder for the EFAA in Boulder and organizing outreach efforts to support Literacy Pittsburgh and Global Links initiatives.

A lifelong Northern California resident, Cecelia has been a marketing communication professional for 20+ years. She previously held social media roles at several Silicon Valley organizations including 8x8, Mellanox Technologies and Cisco managing social media strategy and metrics. Prior to her career in social media, she worked in audience development marketing for B2B publishing. She holds a BA from Mills College in Oakland, CA. She is married with two children and likes to read, knit and crochet in her spare time.
