Freedom of choice: SAP in the cloud

Freedom-choice-sap-hana Freedom of choice isn’t just an old Devo video from 1980 — or any of its gazillion covers. Freedom of choice means having more than one path to follow, and it implies freedom to refuse. Freedom of choice looks like a pretty good gig — but is it always good?

When it comes to choosing during mergers and acquisitions (M&A), “choice” can get ugly. I’ve been part of some product rationalization meetings where the process devolved into screaming and name-calling. For a more civilized example, let’s look at two companies that are going through M&A activities. Company “A” uses Microsoft Azure for cloud. Company “B” uses Google Cloud. They both have cloud for their own SAP landscapes. Having to decide which cloud provider to use can (and probably will) add significant time to the integration of the two companies. This is a great example of how having choices (and having to make decisions) is very difficult. And the better way to go is to not choose one or the other: Go with both!

NetApp is proud to be able to let customers do just that for their SAP landscapes in Google Cloud and Microsoft AzureNetApp simply lets you avoid having to make a painful choice. You can easily move and manage your SAP data for both clouds. Additionally, Azure NetApp Files achieved SAP HANA certification for both scale-up and scale-out deployments. Everybody’s happy, and the integration goes more quickly than planned. Cool, eh?
