What is NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE)?
Full disk encryption that protects data at rest with no operational impact
NetApp® Storage Encryption (NSE) is a nondisruptive encryption implementation that provides comprehensive, cost-effective, hardware-based security that is simple to use. This single-source solution can increase overall compliance with industry and government regulations without compromising storage efficiency.
NSE uses FIPS 140-2 level 2 self-encrypting drives (SEDs) to facilitate compliance and spares return by enabling the protection of data at rest through AES 256-bit transparent disk encryption. The drives perform all the data encryption operations internally and prevent data access until the drive’s encryption key is unlocked by an authorized administrator.
